The Platinum Jubilee…
Did you know?
Queen Elizabeth II is the Supreme Governor of the Church of England (the Anglican Church in England), a position that all British monarchs have held since it was founded by Henry VIII in 1534.
Saturday, February 6th marks the 70th anniversary of her ascension to the throne on Feb. 6, 1952. Princess Elizabeth became Queen Elizabeth II after her father, King George VI, died.
A committed Christian, five years before taking on her role as Queen, she made the following pledge:
I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service... But I shall not have strength to carry out this resolution alone unless you join in it with me, as I now invite you to do: I know that your support will be unfailingly given. God help me to make good my vow, and God bless all of you who are willing to share in it.
– Princess Elizabeth, 21 April 1947
Queen Elizabeth is the first British monarch to have served for 70 years, an anniversary which will be celebrated in a year-long event called the Platinum Jubilee, with special events in June 2022.
Today we remember her, and those serving under her, in our prayers:
Almighty God, the fountain of all goodness,
bless our Sovereign Lady, Queen Elizabeth,
and all who are in authority under her;
that they may order all things
in wisdom and equity, righteousness and peace,
to the honour and glory of your name
and the good of your Church and people;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.
