Church Bazaar
It goes by many names around the world - “bring and buy” and “jumble sale” in the UK, “garage sale” and “rummage sale” in the U.S., and even “trash ’n’ treasure” in Australia! And we’re having one at the Church of the Resurrection on the weekend of September 23 and 24 from 12-6pm!
Come browse gently used (and some new!) clothes and shoes, jewelry, games and puzzles, books, music, movies, toys, decorative items, small electronics, and more, at fantastic prices! We’ll have many English language items that aren’t as easy to find in Bucharest. Enjoy the delicious pancakes and waffles we’ll be making on-site for purchase.
All proceeds benefit our historical church and community, which receives no outside funding (neither from the Romanian nor the British government).
"A Place of Rest" at Street Delivery
For Street Delivery’s “Shared Spaces” this year, the Church of the Resurrection is opening up our historic building for the community with the concept of 'A Place of Rest.' We’ve created activities and events to help visitors explore what fosters rest in the city and each day has a different theme: gratitude, contemplation, and connection.
We’ll have simple prompts for visitors to engage in the daily theme at their own pace during the church open hours as well as special events. *All activities are completely free but donations for the upkeep of the church are much appreciated since we receive no outside funding.

Handel in Bucharest
Our very own Church of the Resurrection choir will be performing George Frideric Handel’s Ode for Saint Cecilia's Day (set to a poem by John Dryden) and excepts from Messiah. They will be joined by soloists George Virban, Maria Virban, and Mathilda Noble. Adina Cocargeanu will be accompanying them and Andrew Noble will be conducting. This is a fundraising concert for the church and for Ukraine, and the suggested minimum donation is 50 RON. Tickets are available at the door and all are welcome!
The Coronation of King Charles III
In our Eucharist this Sunday, we give thanks to God for the coronation of King Charles III, his faith, dedication and commitment to service. The King is the Supreme Governor of the Church of England. Our church choir will sing some splendid music, and we will reflect together on our shared vocation to loving service.
Baby and Toddler Play Time
We’re organizing a time of socialising for children 0-5 years old and accompanying adults. Come along to play, craft, and sing with your pre-school children - and meet other parents and carers over a cup of coffee! This opportunity is open to the wider community with sponsorship from the International British School of Bucharest and is free of charge (a donation for supplies is optional).
Women’s World Day of Prayer
Women’s World Day of Prayer is celebrated all around the world on the first Friday of March each year to encourage Christian women to engage in and lead personal and communal prayer. The ecumenical movement began in the 19th century, when Christian women in the U.S. and Canada began organizing cooperative activities to support women’s involvement in missions across the world.
This year a team of women from different Christian traditions has organized a time of prayer at the Church of the Resurrection. “Prayer stations” will be set up with a variety of creative prompts for different ways to engage in prayer. We will be focusing on prayers for peace and all are welcome.
*We will be holding two different times of prayer on the day, 11am-1pm and 7pm-8pm, to allow as many people as possible to join in.
Peace Charity Concert
The Church of the Resurrection choir, directed by the British Ambassador to Romania, HE Mr. Andrew Noble, will be performing “The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace" by Welsh composer Karl Jenkins.

The Church of the Resurrection choir, conducted by Mr. Andrew Noble, and accompanied by Ms. Adina Cocargeanu on the church’s organ, will perform a special concert in honor of the 100th anniversary of the coronation of Queen Marie of Romania and the Platinum Jubilee of HM Queen Elizabeth II.
The concert is also a fundraiser in support of the church at the beginning of Rev. Dr. Nevsky Everett’s ministry at the Church of the Resurrection. Tickets are 50RON and will be sold at the door on the evening of the concert.
The program includes coronation anthems by Handel and Parry, and Vivaldi’s Gloria. A light reception will take place after the concert.
*Vaccine certificates are not required for this event but please wear a medical mask inside the church for the safety of others.
Welcoming Father Nevsky Everett!
The day we’ve been waiting for has finally come! Fr. Nevsky Everett, together with his family, will be here on Sunday March 27th for his first official service as our new chaplain and we couldn’t more excited to welcome them. Our choir, under the direction of Andrew Noble, will sing specially prepared songs in honor of the event.
It is also Mothering Sunday. While Mothering Sunday has become a time of celebrating mothers and women more generally, it originally began as a strictly religious holiday in the 16th century. “Mother” referred to “mother church,” meaning the main church or cathedral in an area, and people would return to their mother church for a special service on the fourth Sunday of Lent. It seems somehow fitting that we are having this special service with Fr. Nevsky at the Church of the Resurrection as Bucharest becomes his new home.
Please plan to stay after the service for an extended time of fellowship so that everyone present can meet Fr. Nevsky.
Memorial service for Fr. Paul Goodridge
Though already retired and living in Bulgaria, Fr. Paul Goodridge agreed to serve as chaplain at the Church of the Resurrection in Bucharest beginning in 2015 until 2019. Afterwards, even after the pandemic had started, he would still periodically return to hold services. As many in our community felt, “Fr. Paul was one of the really ‘chosen few’ who could make all around him feel wanted and needed” and he “showed great concern for the problems of the world.” He passed away on November 10, 2021 and our community misses this truly special man of God.
On Sunday February 20th at 10am at the Church of the Resurrection, we will be having a memorial service for Fr. Paul with communion led by Fr. Nevsky Everett who will be coming in from England. Fr. Paul’s wife Rumyana and her daughter Marielle will be in attendance from Bulgaria. All are welcome to come celebrate the life of this extraordinary man but we ask that you register in advance by emailing anglicanbucharest@gmail.com given spatial limitations and covid restrictions.
Fish and Chips Supper
One of our favorite annual nights of food and fellowship! We’ll be serving up fried fish and chips, along with an assortment of salads. We’ll have plenty of good conversation and we’re especially happy to have Fr. Nevsky Everett joining us from England this weekend. We’ll also have raffles in support of the church and activities for children.
Cost is 100 lei for adults and 50 lei for children. A vaccine certificate will be required or a negative PCR test within 48 hours.
Spots are very limited so please make sure to reserve by emailing anglicanbucharest@gmail.com.
Service of 9 Lessons and Carols
Time to really get into the Christmas spirit! Please join us for the traditional Anglican service of 9 lessons and carols, featuring the Church of the Resurrection choir. We will have 2 services. One at 2pm and one at 4pm. Due to pandemic conditions and limited space, we ask that you register in advance for one by emailing anglicanbucharest@gmail.com
Sacred Music Service
We will be holding a special thanksgiving service in the church with sacred music by J. S. Bach, performed by our wonderful organist, Adina Cogarceanu, and two fantastic singers, soprano Andreea Novac and bass-baritone Razvan Georgescu.
Please come to support the church and give thanks for the music, which is such an important part of our worship.
(For entry to this special service we will be asking for a vaccine certificate or negative COVID test.)
